Ingredients
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup fresh milk
  • 1 packet dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • about 700 g flour
  • For the syrup: 3 cups sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • peels and juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 liquid vanilla
Preparation
  1. Activate the yeast in the warm milk and add sugar and salt.
  2. Sift the flour, make a well, and pour in the eggs and the activated yeast.
  3. Knead a moderately soft dough, divide into 6 balls, and roll them out as much as possible.
  4. Pair them up, greasing between with oil or butter, roll into a log, and cut into 1 cm circles.
  5. Repeat with the remaining dough, let them rise in the baking tray.
  6. Bake at 180° until golden brown, then pour the cooled syrup over the warm banitsa.
